I bought a Blackstar HT1R for use at home cos I liked the idea of a mini tube amp but need to be quiet sometimes too.
My question/dilemma is this: when I plug in headphones this amp sounds absolutely brilliant - I get all the tones I want, no pedals, nothing . I love it. Through the speaker, however, I never seem to get what I want whether turned loud (it's louder than you may think) or low.
Does this mean that the speaker is rubbish or is there some other stuff going on that I don't know about? The great headphone tone confirms to me that this is a nice amp which can do what I want so I really don't want to get rid of it.
I'm quite willing to swap the speaker or valves if necessary but don't want to spend money only to find no improvement.
I'm playing a Mexican Tele and l like my tone to be "just past clean" with a touch of reverb (which works good on this amp too).
Anyone's thoughts on this would be appreciated, thanks:cool:

Does the headphone socket come after the speaker emulator?
Thats perhaps what you like the sound of
The speakers in the HT series are pretty good I think
I am really not a fan of the Blackstart sound but I did own an HT5 and the speakers, as I say were pretty good

Blackstar speakers are their only downside.....run it through a blackstar cab with a good 12 inch speaker and be amazed.

Who wants to know?
I demoed an HT-1R today and walked away. 8" speakers never did it for me and this one is no exception. I also tried their ID 15 with TVP that has a 12" speaker - what a difference! Also, I have the same experience running headphones straight out of my RP355 as opposed to having the sound coming out of a Pathfinder 10. In one situation you're moving air and in the other you're moving the air between your ears . . . ;)

+1

I play my HT-1RH through a V30 cab and my HT-5R combo has a G12M loaded in it. I would say I like the V30 slightly more for gain because it seems to have more bottom end. But the Green back is slightly better for the cleans, adds more chime then the V30.

The headphone out is the emulated speaker cab thing so your probably getting a fuller sound over the little 8" speaker.

I have had two HT40's. One with the stock speaker and another with a WGS Veteran 30. I like the v30 waaay more!
