The black doesn't look bad, but for me a dark red tort looks old school vintage beautiful. Reminds me of the Clarence tele.

This is getting there. My '51 looks just like this.

All my guitars too except for my Oly white strat. Which I prefer a white pickguard.

Oooh, that looks way cooler than any color Tele guard!

Knowing my taste it may not help at all to suggest getting every color guard and change them on a whim.

For a SB finish I prefer an aged green guard.
But black goes with everything, including caps and resistors!

How does everyone clean their bakelite pickguards?

I bought the official Fender AV52 one and I found that it's become very 'milky'. Perhaps I over clean my guitars. But I always use a polish spray that's safe for all finishes and materials.

Weird thing, read that you’d recently gone back to the white, thought I’d prefer it but scrolled down to the pic and, we’ll, kinda jumped out at me, hit my eyes and, wow, no way. Too bright, ‘in your face’, IMO

Steve have you had any of your Texas Tele's re-fretted?

If your objection to the white is that it's too stark, you try out a five hole parchment guard. I never put white guards on my guitars, but parchment works fine for me.

I have in fact personally refretted each of them myself.
I like massive frets, both tall and broad.
