I have a bunch of Black Maple (Acer nigrum) from a tree that we had to cut down. It’s a softer maple. I can quarter-saw it, and I have sections big enough to make necks (or bodies, for that matter).

Would this species make decent Telecaster necks? Is it worth the effort?

    Thanks!

The general rule is one year of drying time per inch of thickness. You can make a neck out of any wood that doesn't have defects and is dry.

sounds cool! I’d maybe buy a neck (or body) from you in about a year to make a partscaster with!!

    Excellent! Thanks for the information.

Let me see what all I get out of it, and if I have any worthwhile extras, I’ll let you know.
