That first video doesnt show its true scale compared to our entire solar system. This thing is beyond monsterous. Remember the event horizon is tiny compared to its mass, five solar masses yields an event horizon the size of London.... this thing is 1600 AU!!!!

I have a 100% rock-solid lack of understanding of this. I dig the picture, though.

A teaspoon of a neutron star would weigh 100 million tons. If you were to hold that empty teaspoon just one yard above the star’s surface and drop it, it would strike the surface at 4.3 million mph.

A black hole is the only thing denser.

Someone has been visiting the Anandtech Forums, methinks :)

...and I remember when our pal Anand Lal Shimpi started that whole site as a mere youngster...

Nope - saw it on a 'Universe' a few years back. Googled to make sure I had the numbers right. But I'll be sure to check it out :)

It doesnt look all that hospitable.

Its not all Jodie Fostery with 23 seconds rocketing through the lovechild of Space Mountain, the Autobahn, and warm Mogen David 20/20.

Mad Dog oy - what possessed us?

Clearly when Cornell sings, "I Am The Highway" - this is what he meant.

I tried watching the live stream of the presentation by the astrophysicists who worked on the project. They were flicking through images and describing what the images showed.

The camera mainly stayed on the presenter and didn't show the pictures!!!!!:mad::mad:

I went and cut the grass instead.:(
