My e-mail has been barraged with Black Friday sales and specials over the last week, and it's still another 2 weeks before Friday 13th. New marketing ploy? Has Christmas now taken a back seat?

Is it time for National Black Friday Day again already? Didn't we just have Easter?

GC’s book had a good coupon but I didn’t get jazzed about anything in it. Drum set deals were probably the best items. The second page had a $2500 Tele and a $2500 Strat. There was a nice pair of Gretsch guitars with Bigsbys for $399. The rest of it was goofy. Lots of cheap Harbinger PA stuff.

I wonder what the big craze will be this year? Smart TV’s?.....or that old stuff already?

Confusion comes from the fact that traditionally here in Australia a Black Friday has always been a Friday that is also the 13th. Trouble is that now our retailers are adopting the USA Black Friday and bombarding us with emails for a Black Fiday that is not a part of our culture.

My wife just got $50 back from a pre Black Friday deal on an item that she bought at MF a month ago. It is already paying off.

Of course, she thinks that she can spend that $50 during Black Friday.:confused:o_O:cry::lol:

I feel the Australians’ pain. I work retail at the Canadian branch of an American company. When I started with them 7 years ago, we did not do Black Friday. I liked it that way. If you insist on embracing consumerism, well, Canada has Boxing Day, and the States can keep BF. Well, eventually, we caved to it. I hate it (not that I’m a fan of Boxing Day consumerism, either). Since new ownership, it’s gotten even more stupid. BF is my biggest annual reminder of how important it is to me to win the lottery or receive an inheritance from an unknown benefactor.

Aahhh. Penny drops - well, half drops, since I don't know what a USA Black Friday refers to.

Ok, I Googled it, so now I know what (USA) Black Friday is.

A post-Thanksgiving consumer frenzy, akin to the post-Christmas (Boxing Day) consumer frenzy.

    Same here in Spain.

I just forced myself not to get into this thing. I am not buying any single thing this week just as reaction to this stupid bombing

Nevertheless it is not being difficult for me... I don't watch TV and have all type of addblockers and use ghost browser and searchers all that stuff in my computer

There was an article in one of the UK papers a couple of days ago which after an investigation concluded that friday the 13th prices were no different than the normal prices in the vast majority of cases. In other words it is a scam.
