I have no doubt I would love to have a '54 , but I'd be a liar if I said I wasn't blessed to stumble upon my '57 Esquire when I was 15 . Like someone else said , it changed my life . Z54

I'm just too old, 1949. The oldest Tele I owned was a 1955 which would fit my wife.

Can't afford a birth year tele but I do have a Gibson J45 in my wife's birth year- 1953.
    I guess I can't complain

Another one too old to afford a birth year guitar(1953). This is probably the closest I'll ever get. My 1966 Gibson "Esquire".

My 53 is 2 years older than me.
I guess that it will just have to do.
    Poor me.

I have a 1979 Yamaha SG and AS(335). But actual birth day would be pretty difficult, are their serial numbers that are granular to the day?

My neck stamp would've been 4 DEC 72. Years ago I saw a 3 DEC 72 and nearly bought it for that reason, but thought I'd hold out for 4 DEC 72...

Of course I never found it...but Major Gruber is correct - you see a lot of teles built on the 3rd because the 3 means telecaster....

I've got my birth year 72 tele but I think it's got an April 72 neck stamp.... Here it is, <7lbs of pure joy...

Anyway I bought it because it was the best 70s tele you'll ever come across, not because it was built in 72...

I would love one but I was born in 1962 and the last one I seen on ebay was a mere 25,000 USD. :(

I was born in 1958 and have thought about it, but never have gotten a "birth-year" guitar for myself. However, when my little brother (born in 1960) stepped on a rainbow last year I was able to secure this "closet queen" 1960 Musicmaster (not nearly as expensive a a 60 tele -- but still the most I've ever paid for a guitar.) It'll never have quite the mojo or cache of a tele, but every time I pick it up "Steve" I do a mental salute to my brother:

I grew up playing a blonde white guard 1968 Telecaster. That was my birth year, and it was really just a used guitar back in 1980. It belonged to a family friend and I gave it back after I got my own guitar (an ES 335!) a few years later. Sadly, neither guitar is in my possession anymore. I have tried to locate that old family friend to no avail since he moved away many years ago. I figure he is getting on in age and I'd love to buy that Telecaster off of him, but it doesn't look like that is in the cards since I can't locate him.

Pays to be young I guess. I'm always on the hunt for a 1991 MIJ or Am Std.

Born in 1949. I thought I read somewhere Leo built his first Tele style guitar in July of '49, if so we were both born at the same time. That's all I got.

    This means you'll have to also get a '52. It's a sign! :)

No way I'll ever be able to afford a '56 Tele (or Esquire). I'll have to make do with my '66.

I'm a'60 model myself but even if i had the money to buy one, i probably wouldn't. SO, i built one (actually two).
I'm going to try to get a seperate thread up soon because that was a lot of fun.
