I'm digging deep into Frisell's amazing discography and I've just watched this:

I think if it were not caught on video I would have had a hard time believing it's really him on the guitar.
Bill is the living proof that the more styles you're approaching, the richer becomes your music.

Naked City is great! It's where I first heard of Bill Frissell, back when someone gave me this album on cassette. Some of his solo stuff is a little NPR boring to me however, he's an amazing player that is willing to take risks. I like all the stuff he does with Zorn especially "The Mysteries".

Thanks! As much as I love Frisell, I would not say I'm a big fan of Naked city... But I'm always willing to discover!

Then there's him with the Ginger Baker trio in 1995:

    This I'm liking a lot!
And watching the joy on Ginger Baker's face makes me happy to remember how great he was.

I saw them in Vienna, it was in '91-92. One of the most memorable concerts on my life.
The "singer" was Mike Patton of the Faith no More, though.
A real supergroup, we can say that.

If you dig in deep, don't forget Bass Desires:

    or Powertools

or his best band -to me -, the trio with Baron and Driscoll

He was a very very adventorous guitarist up until the Nashville album. From then on he became a tad too conservative to my tast, and I lost interest in his recorded music, but still go to see him, whenever he is around.

The best concert I ever attended was his New Quartett, with Greg Leisz ,Tony Scherr and Kenny Wollesen .

Yes the East Coast Frisell is my Favorite. Bass Desires and Power Tools were my gateway into “jazz”. I love the album “Where in the World” earth shaking stuff to me back in the 90’s...

Fantastic. And Ginger was a stellar drummer, indeed.
