Ethereal beauty! Thanks! Is that drop D tuning he's using?

frankly, i love how he danced around playing the melody for so long...beautiful music, IMHO.

I love to do a song or two in my solo set where I don't start with the melody...I'll start with the changes, improvising, slowly working in bits of the melody and actually finish the song by playing it straight...

His recording of "Shenandoah" has been a favorite of mine for years.

Speaking of this particular tune/song "Shenandoah" you have to like Johnny Smith's version. It will give you a chill as if you're watching a good, old western movie. It has a great arrangement with all meat and beauty.

I couldn't find his version on YouTube but this is a good example of the Johnny Smith arrangement "Shenandoah" performed by someone else.

That's what builds the atmosphere! :D It's like describing a scene before introducing characters and a plot.....beautiful and artistic.

Have you kids ever heard Tony Rice's version?

It is such a good song and in the right hands it is almost unearthly.

I like most versions of "Shenandoah" that I've heard, but Frisell's is at the top.

One of Chet's disciples Tommy Jones (R.I.P.) did the Best Version I've ever heard, on a Kirk Sands Nylon string in dropped D...couldn't find it on YouTube, but I have it on Video.

The version of it on his "East/West" album is really good.
