While watching the new Bill and Ted movie, Bill and Ted Face the Music, I couldn't help but notice that, when they're offered a choice of guitars, one of which is fated to compose that song which shall redeem the universe, every one is an Epiphone/Gibby. WTF?!

    It's about the money.

Gibson was willing to pay more to be in the movie.

See those Steinbergers on the right?

Gibson's parent company owns that brand too.

It’s simple - SG (Superior Guitar) with either P90s or PAFs

The first movie was an SG and a Flying V I believe. In crazy yellow/red early nineties paint jobs.

Correction: They started with a Squier(?) and what looks like a Japanese guitar.

I watched the first two films when they came out 30 years ago(?)...

I remember my dad sitting straight-faced through most of the first half, and then finally laughing out loud when he realized that absurdity was the point...after that, he snickered most of the way through.

    Death is in the movie.

I was in high school when the first two came out and really liked them. This new one felt like a crappy training video at work that is mandatory viewing.

Exactly - product placement. And it's not a new phenomenon.
