    Hi all,

long time lurker and reader! Feels like a really friendly forum, so, will be more a more regular contributor

so, i have a 2014 hotrod tele which i am using as a stealth esquire (vanson hot humbucker in the neck is working ok, going to have something expensive made though...!)

i have fitted an SD BG1400 stacked humbucker in the bridge and need a little help with wiring. I need a diagram for 4 way switching:

    1, neck humbucker
    2, bridge coil tap
    3, bridge humbucker
    4, bridge humbucker (no tone)

Please can anyone do me a quick diagram?

    I used a BG1400 in my Bigsby Esquire but I went 3-way.

I did, however, find this. The 'secret' is to solder the red and white together & tape them off.

    I hope this helps! :)

    Hi,

Not sure I have been as clear as I could have been there! I think the diagram @PeterUK is for neck and bridge working as a humbucker.

Position #1 - Neck Pickup only
Position #2 - Bridge stacked humbucker coil tap (single coil)
Position #3 - Bridge stacked humbucker (all coils)
Position #4 - Bridge stacked humbucker (all coils) tone control disconnected

    Thanks

    Jeff

As far as I can see, it's not possible to do with a four-way switch. You need three poles, it only has two. You could add a push-pull to cut the tone, or do the split, which means you only need a three-way blade switch.

But... cutting the tone is easily done with a no-load tone pot. When it's rolled up to 10, it cuts out of the circuit entirely. Granted, you need to roll the knob, and lose any existing tone setting. But it may be a better option for you than adding a push-pull. Your choice.

I've drawn what I'm talking about. It's a three-way, Neck, Split, Bridge, and then you roll the tone pot to get your fourth flavor.

This is awesome, thank you so much. I get the coil split conundrum. The telecaster is a 2014 hotrod that is becoming a stealth esquire. I am going to try and lightly modify the wiring as i don’t want to go too nuts!

    Hi All,

So, I have made the changes as indicated by @moosie. The change works really well.

The neck humbucker is a cheap vanson ceramic humbucker: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01LX13PHS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - 15.1k neck pickup. It sounds like a thick 52 single coil without the capacitor - kind of jazzy. The middle position is the single coil BG1400 in coil tapped/split mode - it is load and very 'country' sounding. The back position is full on bg1400 bridge and is slightly lower volume than split, but it thicker.

The whole thing works rather well with the 375k pots, middle position really screams!

    I will do a video!

You found a 375k no-load pot? Or did you scrape the track yourself?

I left the ‘no load’ idea for now!!
