I recently got a tweed Champ clone, and I would like a pedal that acts like a BF preamp and tone stack to basically turn my tweed champ into a BF champ.

    Any recommendations?

The Boss FDR-1 gets mixed reviews, but I like mine.

Well I can't answer that directly yet,
but I just ordered a JOYO Anerican Sound...
(a clone of the Tech 21 ' Blonde' Fender Amp emulator, whose controls approximate characteristics of various Fender amp eras...)
...to basically make my SS Fender amp sound more like a BF/SF tube Fender.
I'm not expecting miracles, so much as a little improvement. Should be arriving today

Check the American Sound thread right here for comments, folks do seem to like this Series ( other amp makes are emulated in the series) , folks seem to like it!

If you can find one, the Wampler Black 65 does that very well. I got rid of mine because I primarily play thru blackface Fenders so it was redundant for me.

I second the Black '65. I got one from Pedal Genie a while back and it was awesome.

    Is this still made?

I remember when Fender/Boss made the FDR-1, the ,'59 Bassman, and the outboard tube Reverb unit.
I never tried one but dug the idea of putting the Tone, Trem, and Reverb all inside a ' Deluxe Reverb pedal'

( but at the time I owned a '68 DR)

Just read a review in a old GUITARIST mag Oct.2019, issue 451...about an OD pedal by Free The Tone called STRING SLINGER, positive on all matters PLUS, tends to sound like a Fender amp from the Blackface period. The only negative, like most pedals sold today:high cost!

No, but they’re pretty easy to find used.

really, ftw, this, except he wants the tone stack, too.
but yeah, it gets redundant, fast :p

If we don’t stop talking about the Joyo AS, we’re gonna drive the price up.

but yeah, I really like the sound of my American Sound 5f2a AliExpress clone!

    This.
Its just a matter of mids, surely?
BTW I had an fdr1, and while the preamp and tremolo were great, the reverb just wasn't.

    Question, please for anyone?

(Note: I'm actually getting an American Sound tomorrow; never played one, but heard demos, and great recommendations here on TDPRI for years)

Is there a difference in operation between the American Sound, and the original Tech 21 Blonde?

I ask, as the JOYO copy in description, states pedal is ( specifically) 'like a '57 Tweed Deluxe,' but the Tech 21 text ( and knob setting chart) implies the Charactet knob ( same as Joyo 'Voice') let's you dial in from ' BF/SF to Brown to Tweed amp sounds' ( paraphrased, a bit and of course ' Fender' is never mentioned)

    * just a curiosity thing, thanks!

Edit: as an owner of previous and current Fender tube amps, I know to take all ad copy with a grain of salt; don't expect a $40 pedal to nail decades of stellar Fenders

OK so I've never owned a Tech 21 Blonde, but I own the Joyo.
So I've never personally compared the two.
But "internet wisdom" (an oxymoron if ever there was :p) says they are identical in function and sound, if not strictly identical in form

    Thanks,

Reading ( and posting too) about these Joyo ' Character clones' reminded all about when the Tech 21 ones came out, (pre-smart phone days) how I read guitar mag reviews, printed info sheets on each one; wanted all of them!

thought they sounded like the coolest ideas ever! ( plus a friend of mine owner a great- sounding SansAmp pedal, which is basically where these Characters all came from....)

I used to keep printed archives of every cool pedal, amp, 11 gauge notes, for many years. A real ' gear info junkie"
