What, including the shipping and £500 duty? Whenever I’ve been to the States I’ve found them to be priced $ to the £ the same, $1,000 US, £1,000 UK. Only savings to be made would be when the exchange rate favoured the UK.

This is why I will never again order from Wildwood guitars. They sent me a strat with a broken trussrod. I was charged $600 taxes\import fees. I sent it back and when they sent the replacement I had to pay it again even though no money changed hands. Wildwood definitely screwed that transaction up.

What made you more confident that the photos on the US retailer's website you bought from were more accurate than the UK retailer?

It seems quite a gamble to rely on photos if the right colour is of such importance, especially as it would have been far easier (due to your statutory consumer rights) less risk (less distance and time in transit to be damaged) and less expensive to return a guitar to a UK retailer.

Based on the price of the UK one, the £100 difference in price to the one you bought, the return postage and the £500 in taxes, you're probably left with about £950. Can you not get more selling it as used in the UK rather than sending it back to the retailer in the US?

+1 That was my same thought too.

Could that local Oly-White retailer work out a trade with you even to offset a lot of the cost?

It's not uncommon for some translucent blonde finishes look pinkish because the wood beneath has a reddish cast to it. Not all ash is browns and tans; colors vary because same-species trees grow in different locations and soil, water and climate all contribute to the color of the wood.

Far as really pink guitars go, everybody should own a Peptobismolcaster for those moments when the unexpected...diarrhea solo...happens.

I second this! Also, @ben smith keep in mind too that, if you go with Olympic white and the finish is nitro, it will yellow out on you in short order... Mine took only a year of playing to do so. The pink mine got from my t-shirt went away and became yellow-ish colored i.e. the nitro change overpowered not only the pink-ish hue but also the white. For me it's exactly what I want it to do, but just sayin' ;)

Can a guitar be too pretty? I don't know that I would ever leave the house with a guitar that stunning.

At the risk of being Captain Obvious...another thing in play is color relativity; the background matters because it provides a color reference. For instance, here's a pic of my surf green Strat hanging on the wall.

You'd never know how mint green the wall is until you have something white for comparison.

I think the combination of gold hardware and pure white pick guard are creating the illusion of pink. It’s by-nature an off-white finish, and having those 2 elements contrasting with it is really making the off-white elements pop in a way that evokes a pinkish hue.

;) Wear a red shirt when you play it and it’ll look white. I think it looks great. And if it sounds and feels good, who cares

OT: I've never seen a UK home before that had Continental wall plugs.

Re the topic, I don't really see the "pink" But then again I have never seen the "pink" tolex people talk about for the early brown-era Fenders. Beyond that I already put in my 2cents in the other thread on this.

If it were me, I’d replace the nut, trim (or replace) the pickguard (and go to stainless hardware, but I get that you like the gold), then live with it a while. Leave it sit near a sunny window so t starts to yellow. If I didn’t take to it, then re-sell locally.
No way I’d take the 500 anything loss

I’d try a darker scratchplate first (tortoiseshell or maybe black, or even anodised gold..?) and see if the contrast ‘whitens’ the guitar. And failing that I’d say sell it here in the U.K., you’ve taken a hit on shipping and duties already so see if you can sell it on for a decent price.

I definitely looks pink-ish, but I still think it's the hue of the underlying wood, itself.
