Right now I don't post about my music anywhere but here. But I'm thinking of trying some other forums.

I'm looking to get feedback on my recordings, and to hear what other people are doing, and how they're doing it - although I I'm not into full-on techy discussions.

With the greatest respect, I'm interested in pretty good original recordings, and not acoustic covers or people who aren't all that competent. That's not a dig - I'm sure there are places for people at every level. But I want a forum for people who can at least tell one end of a guitar from the other, as I almost always can.

So:
Completed original songs
Not too techy
and hopefully a polite vibe.

Any recommendations appreciated.

I'm come across:

The Songwriter forum
The Songwriters forum
Muse songwriters
Songstuff

No idea what they're like. Would need to investigate more

Let me know when you find that.

Songwriting and production and recording are all different skills to me.

Best pro recording resource is Tape Op magazine. Still free. Otherwise that segment tends to coalesce around the DAW used (and it's kind of tribal). Some youtube channels on that and gearslutz or whatever- but they're too gear obsessed for me. Not enough examples of output.

Production coalesces around genre- the young are on discord/reddit /r/lofihiphop or private discords for production. I don't know of any guitar/band oriented production resources.

Songwriting- possibly the hardest one. I'd guess maybe around people trying to charge for classes and "build a community". Songwriting camps. I think songwriting is more rarely a group sport-it's hard to collaborate with something so personal. Not sure why- but people seem to think it's not as learnable.

Fave resources around songwriting are some youtube channels: "song writers chop shop" and "how to write songs". But the best might be interviews with artists on their process. There are a ton of those.

kind of enjoyed Jeff Tweedy's book How to Write One Song- and if I had to teach an intro songwriting class, I'd use that book.

I have not joined this community (I still have a ton to learn on my own), but almost everything I have learned so far has been from Joe Gilder's "Home Studio Corner" videos (recording, mixing, mastering). Joe is a Nashville producer/singer/songwriter/guitarist. This is the description of his $100 a year (30 days free) VIP community.

"Community"

"I love getting lost in the creative process for hours, but when I come up for air, I want a place to share my music. The VIP Forum is the perfect place

Rather than sharing your work-in-progress on Facebook or emailing it to friends, you can post share it with your fellow VIP members. There's a thriving community of people just like you, people working on projects, making music, getting better.

Members can give you valuable insight on your project in a safe, kind, respectful environment."
