I see that there is a thread with Dock of the Bay in the title. I haven't read it yet. But this got me thinking about why I don't care for the song, even though I know how revered it is, and I certainly admire and respect it. But there is something about how its energy flows that doesn't excite me or touch me as much as many other favorites. What are some classics that you personally don't feel close to?

Layla. Maybe because I have heard it too much. The beginning riff is not so great and it drags on with the slide and piano part. Ugh.

However, it must be said that is a truly great album. Every song on it is good. It is the definitive Clapton to me

OMG, this IS a hate thread. I truly didn't conceive of it that way, but it certainly is, I now see. I won't be doing this again, even though the replies so far are very interesting.

Brown Eyed Girl is a great song when Van Morrison does it. Mustang Sally is fun when it's Wilson Pickett.

I'd have to go along with Layla. Was that weedlie weedlie bit at the end recorded at GC on a Saturday morning?

Indeed. Let me say that every time I hear a Dave Matthews song I fight the compulsion to raise my hand and place a bid. His schtick sets off some trigger long ago set within me to heighten my awareness and pay attention to the auctioneer.

I haven't been to an auction in almost thirty years, but Dave Mattews' songs have that effect on me. I can't enjoy them.
