Ace's solo album was the best (of the four) solely because of this

What a great marketing gimmick though, have all members of a very popular-at-the-moment band release simultaneous "solo" albums

I enjoy them all, but the first one that I heard at just the right time is the one I go back to the most.

My personal favs are the ones where it's a band member who is not usually under the spotlight. Dave Grohl, Frampton, Mike Campbell's ubiquitous "Boys of Summer," Miami Steve's penning and producing, "I Don't Want to Go Home," Steve Jones' "Mercy" LP, the series of killer Ringo singles, Tommy Stinson, etc.

I like these threads. They light a fire under me to check things out for music, movies and books I've missed.

Been meaning to check this one out, so I finally ordered a copy.

Another vote for Pete Townsend. I always loved his solo work. After Moon died, I was hoping that the guys would shut down the Who and Pete would move on, but no such luck.

I agree. I would love to see him solo, but not paying for Who-lite. Last time I seen them was the week after Entwistle died. That was just wrong. Now Townshend doesn't even carry his guitar work.

These solo albums were so good that many people think of these artists as solo rather than members of a band.

    McCartney - Paul McCartney
    Imagine - John Lennon
    Transformer - Lou Reed
Building the Perfect Beast - Don Henley
    So - Peter Gabriel
Full Moon Fever - Tom Petty

He’s just out of Deep Purple, putting Ritchie’s swords and sorcery stuff behind him, hasn’t got into the ridiculous ****-rock / hair-rock extremes of Whitesnake — he’s just a young man with a great voice experimenting with a few different styles in the rock / blues tradition.

I've just realised half of these guys are dead.
    But... their music lives on!

I’m not really familiar with a lot of solo albums, as I was more of a band guy, but I do like this one. I’ll have to think about other ones.
