Best place for vintage amp parts

    I think one issue is that the new range you get on the bias pot with the piggy back method may or may not suit your selection of power tubes. Your bias probe will answer that though.
    Not sure if the most extreme mismatch can harm the amp, but I'm sure it could burn up a pair of tubes.
    I also have a bunch of decent used el34s in stock and they are of a disposable vintage.
    I wouldn't try it with tubes worth $100.
    When I did it 30 years ago the used tubes I had were probably pretty good Tesla's which are now valuable, but were then nothing special.

    I did have a very bad storm the other night. It was probably a power surge. I do use surge protectors albeit not extremely expensive ones. The current but dead 6550s did sound pretty good to my ears though. Kinda deep and pissed off and serious. I think I’m gonna sleep on it. Quit while I’m ahead today lol
