I would say some kind of rat circuit if you need something for od and higher gain. It’s kind of a Swiss Army knife and can pass for od, distortions, and fuzz in a pinch. I will bring a rat type pedal if I’m going to a jam where I don’t really know what we will be playing because it can work for any era of rock tones.

Finding that kind of mid to higher gain solo pedal has always been alittle elusive to me because I always end up preferring the lower gain sounds in pedals and then next thing I know I have 5 or 6 pedals laying around that do the same darn thing. Oh well with gain sometimes I think less is more you can just use whatever OD pedal you already have and goose it with more volume and sustain with a compressor for a lead.

Have you tried stacking them? Doesn’t always work well, but some combinations can surprise you.
