Thinking about mixing up the drive section of my board and considering a pedal that would primarily be considered an overdrive, but that could approximate 70s style distortion (think Aerosmith et al.) at higher-gain levels. Here's my current long list:

    OCD
    PlimSoul
808 or derivative (Full-Drive, EQD Plumes, Way Huge Green Rhino, etc.)
    BD-2
    Xotic SL

What am I missing here? What do you like?

Playing a MIM Tele with SD Quarter Pounds through a Marshall Origin 20 head. Thanks all.

Start with the OCD then stop.

Or why not just goose the Marshall with a strong boost?

I always point people to this vid. It is probably pretty basic stuff for you, but since you are throwing darts out there, you might as well start back with a good fresh perspective. Mark will get to a few pedals that cross over. Anyway, I hope this helps.

In the 70’s, my dirt pedal was an MXR Distortion+.

OCD, it's the answer to everything.

Xotic BB in to already cooking amp?

Boss DS-2 - I've always used it as an over the top distortion but found it can do mild overdrive too.

For Aerosmith you need something like a British lead pedal. The Joyo British sound works great. If you’re not into clones get a Wampler Plexi British or a Catalinbread Dirty Little Secret. Add a little delay and spring reverb and you’re there.

I can confirm, OCD covers a lot of that territory well.

T Rex Dr Swamp second version double overdrive, you can set one channel for light od and the second to be a distortion.

I love this pedal. I bounce back and forth between it and an OD-3. I am completely content in the OD/Dist department.

Love the OCD, I do wish it had a little more flexibility on the lower end of the overdrive spectrum, but it could me and how I use it.

    Blues Driver for me

Always ON ( very responsive to guitar Vol. knob).and a perfect companion to my old Blonde, mid-rangey Blues Jr.
It ' wakes up' the BJ, adds some sparkle, and imparts a great clean>OD>Distortion ( depending on how far up BD-2 Gain is set) all from my guitar Vol. control.

Dod looking glass is kinda in there too. It does really smooth edge of break up and much heavier stuff too.
