Standing In The Shadows of Motown-Documentary about the Motown house musicians, including performances with contemprorary (for the time it was recorded) vocalists. Joan Osborne does a version of "Heatwave" that gave me goosebumps.

Muscle Shoals-documentary about FAME studios in Muscle Shoals, AL.

I Ain't In It For My Health, Levon Helm documentary. I just love Levon. Runnin Down a Dream, the Petty doc by Bogdonovich. Hail, Hail Rock and Roll about Chuck Berry. A True Testemonial, the story of the MC5. You're Gonna Miss Me, about Roky Erickson. These are some of my favorite movies about music.

Concert Footage: Led Zeppelin at Royal Albert Hall, Dead Boys at CBGBs, Replacements at the 7th Street Entry (bootleg), Goose Lake International Music Festival Documentary (bootleg).

Spinal Tap, A Mighty Wind and Walk Hard are great spoofs on the music bio-pic genra.

OK...Terrible movie, acting, directing, but I always got a kick out of Eddie and the Cruisers. I thought the band, John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band, did a terrific job on the music, and the concept of the movie. That being a late 50's do-wop group, and hitting the early 60's with music way ahead of their time.

Love and Mercy, about Brian Wilson. It got way into his mental issues and how that affected his life, but the first third or so was all about his musical genius, how the session musicians he was working with initially saw him as crazy (they weren't altogether wrong) but after working with him saw him as the genius he was.
