I recall driving across Texas sometime back in the eighties... I'd covered about 700 miles that day, and I stopped someplace in Houston for dinner. I was exhausted and the chicken-fried steak sounded great. But, being that tired, when it arrived, I was somewhat perplexed to discover it wasn't chicken at all. "Oh, right... steak."

In my part of the south, it was always 'country-fried steak'.

In Georgia? I remember it bring "chicken fried" when I lived there but that was 30 years ago. I don't trust my memory much anymore.

The Toast Restaurant in Anderson, Indiana. Old school diner,+ and the country fried steak with an order of home fries (fried potatoes) is extremely tasty, and suitably high in caloric content. Oh, yeah!

Can't remember where I ate recently that had both a country fried steak and a chicken fried steak. Might have been in Burbank?
Whatever I had was pretty good.

Goddang this thread is making me hungry. Had a great CFS visiting Texas last month but I'm all ready for another. You can get it here and there in the NE but it's not a "thing" and I'm not sure the Greek diners that populate NY/NJ could handle it.

Threadgills (overpriced bar food IMHO) doesn't even come close to the quality of Skeet's... I have eaten at both.

Chicken gets breaded in seasoned flour and fried, if you do the same to a steak, it’s called Chicken Fried Steak.
Regardless of the name, it’s delicious, and when you load on the spuds and biscuits and cover it in more gravy, you got yourself something to talk about. A little Tabasco wouldn’t hurt anything either.
BJ’s Brewery serves one the size of a Studebaker hubcap.
Those were the days,
