Not really well versed in gear so reaching out for advice. Something relatively small for my apartment. Just ordered a new semi-hollow and like to get really clean jazz and blues tones, and also the ability to use some effects. What do you suggest I look into?

Depends on your preferences I guess. Some suggestions:

    • Used blues JR.
    • Spark modeling amp - They do exist, I've borrowed my friend's Spark for 2 weeks. Loved it.
    • Used Fender Champ 600
    • Used AC15
    • AC4

Used Blues Jr would do, but try an Orange Crush 35 RT. "Clean jazz and blues tones"? You're there.

The Laney Cub are good for the price. Not exactly Fender tones but nice and full. I'm on my second Cub12r and it works well on the >1w setting for home use and on full 15w it'll handle small gigs easily. They take pedals well too.

If all my amps were lost in some strange wormhole accident and I was starting afresh I’d go to the Boss Katana.
Modellers now are getting so close l would be highly unlikely to go to valves despite that I love the amps I have currently.

It would help to know a few more details about exactly what you need, but.. here's a blind stab in the dark--

A used JC22? (you *might* even be able to catch a new one for close to $300 if you watch ads; normally about $450)
    Vox MV50 Clean (+Add a speaker cab.) $220 new
    Yamaha THR about $300 new
(Used) Vox Pathfinder 15R - if you can find one, about $150-$200)
Many used Fender combo amps would do the job pretty well; don't know if you've partial to tubes or not -- but there good options either way

Another option, is to buy any amp you want and stick an [Joyo] American Sound in front of it ($40)

    YMMV

It is the best time in history to find great gear at reasonable prices. Most of the makers have really upped their game when it comes to producing a product that has good tone. If you are near a metro area, go to the stores and test a bunch out. Your ears are your best friend. If like me you live in the sticks and it’s a +3 hour drive to the nearest music store with any variety, then the owners groups on this sight are a good place to find out the pros and cons of many different amps posted by people who own them. A couple years ago I was looking for a lightweight small tube combo for home and grab and go. I ended up going with a Vox AC10 based on observations of members in the OG, I can say that they were accurate on abilities limitations and issues I might encounter with said amp. Best of luck in your quest!

AC4 all day. Built in attenuator makes it the perfect apartment amp.
I play in my basement guest room and wife can’t hear a thing upstairs when it’s at 1/4 power, and it’s enough to get a beautiful overdrive sound.

For under $300, I would definitely go solid state or digital modeling. There are tube amplifiers in that price range, but you may be disappointed in how they sound.

Try a Boss Katana 50, Fender Champion 40, 50, and Mustang LT50 and GT40, and Vox Cambridge 50, and pick the one you like best. I had a Katana 50, but I sold it when I got the Mustang LT25, which I like more. I have a GT40 too, and I like the LT25 more than it too.
