I have one of the Danelectro reissues from the late 1990s, and the pickguard cover is starting to peel in a few spots. I'm not sure what material the cover is and what the underlying guard material is (maybe cork?).

Any recommendations for an effective adhesive that will be safe and effective here?

Post a picture of what you are trying to fix. The pickguards on mine are screwed on.

That is a new one to me, but I would try plain old Elmer's or carpenter's glue. Shouldn't melt the pickguard or the finish. Even double-sided Scotch tape. And either would be easily removeable if you need to replace the pickguard entirely down the road.

You could even use 3M adhesive film (what is often used for pickguards) or contact cement.

The pickguards on these are made of Masonite with a Melamine surface, and they are stuck on with DS tape and screws.

Regular ol' 3M Scotch Double Stik tape (office supply stuff) works great.

If you need to completely remove the pickguard, pull all the screws and then carefully use a spudger or small putty knife to work between the pickguard and the body to release the tape that's in there.

Edited: Ohhhhh...it's the melamine that's separating. I'd use a dot of plain white glue or Titebond. Press it down, wipe off any squeeze-out, and then apply a strip of tape to hold it in place for 24 hours. Carefully remove the tape, taking care to not lift the Melamine...

If one were to use tape, shouldn't they also remove the existing tape from the delaminated area? Heat? Solvent?

Most any aliphatic or white glue will work.

I've never used Gorilla wood glue; if it's the Gorilla polyurethane glue (brownish clear), no--that stuff expands and will make a dog's breakfast out of the repair.
