I love playing with Overdrives and Compressors.

I have about 10 Overdrives (TS808 clones) and about 10 Compressors, my newest being an AnalogMan Juicer.

I love buying and trying compressors and I recently bought a Behringer DC9 with the intention of taking it apart and repainting the metal box.....silly fun.

I often wonder how Bugera can build a 22 watt tube amp at 1/3 the price of Fender and how Behringer can build a pedal at 1/3 the price of MXR.

Here's the pedal...

I started to take apart the pedal.

A. The pots have no threaded shaft casings....they are not screwed onto the housing.....the interior pots are molded onto a plastic board and they stick up through the housing without being screwed or secured in place.....

B. The input/output jacks are plastic and they are not bolted to the pedal housing....they are molded to the same board as the pots and this interior board is held in place with three tiny screws......

Here is the board......

I'll avoid Bugera Amps......sorry......yikes. This is how they cut corners.

It was a fun afternoon.

In all fairness....it sounds pretty good. I just couldn't spend hundreds of dollars on a Behringer/Bugera product.

My demo (pre-Martian).....

Fun day!

Instant boutique. You can tell everyone it's from a guy in Kentucky who only makes 3 pedals a year and there's a 8 year wait.

Then that is a win/win!

I applaud what you did - many folks don't want to go beyond changing the battery.

One cool aspect of owning the cheapies is that there should be little or no fear with customizing them to make them just a smidge more distinguishable from something as droll as a toaster oven (no offense if you love the utilitarian look of your toaster, though!).

Customized stuff is also fun on gigs, since the singular person with a sharp eye will want to know what the deal is with the "mystery pedal." Thanks to hand painted pedals by Vex, Greer, and others, many of these little afternoon craft projects can be inadvertently viewed as top dollar boutique designs.
