There is more than one film made with Dracula as the lead creature. The chances of them all not having heard of Dracula in a 24 hour connected world are...remote.

that ....or the Count on sesame street or eaten count chocula cereal and found something out
Never heard of Count Dracula before yet, but I do know who Count Chocula is.

IMO Vampires are easily the most famous and recognizable evil / bad guy characters ever believed in by a few and read about by millions. No vampire owns the #1 spot in this genre other that Dracula, (or for Hammer Film buffs remembering the deceptive ploy .... "Alucard"). Yep. He was a sneaky guy. The movie Nosferatu scared the hell out of my young self but Bela Lugosi's portrayal of Dracula became a life long image all it's own. Hammer Films, utilizing the talent of Christopher Lee, were the first to provide another notable image of Dracula in their movie "The Horror of Dracula" in the late '50s. Christopher can probably claim the most movie in this role, (excellently done), but Bela Lugosi, being Hungarian, was just a dead match for the role / legend of Dracula. After the offerings from Hammer Films many years went by but Dracula was a character that would forever rise from the grave. You can't kill the undead. The best you can hope for is to make them redead. This will, of course, only last until some idiot comes along and pulls the stake out or gathers the ashes and hires a gypsy witch with kitchen skills focused on reconstitution or someone suffers a gunshot would resulting in total exsanguination with the life blood emptying upon and soaking into the ground directly over the dried out staved remains of a vampire.

I wonder. If a mosquito bites a vampire .... who wins? Which way does the blood flow? Could a mosquito give a vampire Malaria or West Nile or would the biting mosquito become enthralled and required to do the vampires bidding for the rest of eternity?

Deep thoughts. Inquiries. The nature of life in all it's forms. That's why I come to TDPRI. The guitar stuff makes for a great front and I do have a strong interest in guitars but "the meaning of life". That's why I'm really here.

We had a first edition print of Bram Stoker's book in our family, but I'm betting my eldest sister nicked it when mum passed and we clearded the house for sale.

I don't know why but TDPRI members seem to have a soft spot for all these creatures

You failed to mention "playing" with the mercury from a broken thermometer (bonus points if your teacher let you do it at your desk in school)
OMG I forgot all about this! And we did in it school none the less.

Wonder if I might be eligible for a financial windfall from the school? :)

I think I’ve been on this form now 14 years.

In that time I’ve learnef many things and one of them is you can look at a thread title, and think just about how many pages it should last.

Based on the subject .

And if, by your estimate, it is two or three times that long - and still getting replies?

Run like hell in the opposite direction ! 🤣😂

(And, I don’t like when people I know and like in real life, ask me questions like you DO know that Procol Harum is one of the greatest bands ever - right? You DO know that right? )

The only thing worse than old man ranting is ranting by those not old enough to have earned the indulgence of others having to put up eith their rants. Usually the people putting up the "old man yells at cloud" memes in response

an interesting thought came up in another thread, in a post by the most excellent Dan R, in a thread about the passing of John Lennon:

"What is a bit surreal is how John only means something to us. Many people under 30 might say, "Whos that?" I get that all the time from young people.. They may not even recognize the names Elvis or Frank Sinatra. Many young people have the attitude that anyone before their time doesn't matter."

i thought i should make a thread instead of hi-jacking that one.

i must tell of a recent experience. i was recently sequestered for several days with about 75 young men at a religious retreat. i'm in my 60's, most of the men i was in the dorm with were around 25-35 years. all of them were intelligent, fine young men. one evening, i popped into a room and observed one guy holding a certain implement in his hand. i said, "Man, that looks like a prop from a Dracula movie." three guys, simultaneously, said, "What's that?"

they were not joking. they didn't know who or what Dracula is. i tried to explain, then one of them asked, "Well, what year was that movie made?"
"1930"
"Well, see?" yeah, i guess i see.
i was utterly shocked. ok, one of the guys was Amish. there really is no reason why an Amishman would know who Dracula is, for real.

movies, books, music, and guitar players have been my life. my head is way in a different zone, i know that...but never heard of Dracula?

my background and these guys' backgrounds are way apart, none of them had been in the military, worked in a prison, been involved in law enforcement or worked in a morgue. several of them said they had never handled a firearm in their lives. well, ok, i get that, so none of my war stories were of any interest, either unbelievable to them or just plain nothing. the only things i heard any of them talk about was their cell phones and Star Wars. they talked about their workouts.

this was bizarre to me. but, i think, i really need to know. You guys DO know who Dracula is, right?
There are many more versions of Dracula than the 1931 film and not having any idea who he is is a sign of cultural illiteracy.

At 65 and not into much fiction at all during my entire life, I really know little about Dracula, vampires and zombies and I am not curious about them at all. Something about a wood stake stabbed in the heart or something. I didn't even read the posts in this thread. I enjoy living in reality, so don't have me on your Trivial Pursuit team.

Caveat: I watched , "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" a bazillion times and apparently there is some references that I never understood.
How did you even wind up replying to this and why did you bother?

Circa 1969 (I was 5), Barnabas Collins (Jonathan Frid, left) was my first "Dracula". Then I would discover (~1971) Bela Lugosi (right).
