I pulled this out of my CD graveyard. Haven't listened to it in
years. I remember buying this when it came out in 89. It was
on a red cassette with the longest gatefold I had ever seen.
It was considered a commercial failure when it was released.
This album couldn't be made today with all the samples requiring
licensing.

Anybody else???

I bought it when it first came out. I have a lot of it in MP3 format now. I like most Beastie stuff including this.

The great thing on this album (my opinion I guess) is the Dust Brothers did the production. If you dig up a copy of Beck's Odelay and compare and contrast those two albums, you can kinda get a sense of how much of both albums is really the unique touch of the Dust Brothers. Before I cared about stuff like that, I had both albums and considered them among my favorite albums.. and never realized they'd been produced by the same guys. (Also solves the mystery of why didn't future Beck or Beasties albums sound like either of those two).

Definitely my favorite Beasties album (the only one Ive bought twice), but I loved the later stuff when they got Mario Caldato playing that 60s soul organ on Check Your Head and beyond, that was hot. My favorite track is still Root Down.
