I really like the lyrics.
I really like the mix. Percussion is just right for the song, and I can always hear and understand the vocal (which to my ear was always in tune). Of course, the guitars sound great.
Howdy Harry....

Thanks for giving it a spin and the very kind words.
Glad you like the lyrics.

Truth be known....there's nothing complicated about my music writing.
I'm just a "bread & butter", "four on the floor" (as described by one reviewer & Ken respectively) R/Roll guy but coherent lyrics/story line has always been a focus in my song writing.
Which insures I'll never have mass appeal. :)
Obviously then, I think it's important to hear lyrics clearly.
When someone asks what style of music I play I've frequently responded with "coherent rock".

Thanks again Harry....

Nicodemus1....
I wouldn't have any idea about the difference between an "AM" mix vs. an "FM" mix.
I did use an Ozone Elements mastering setting on the final.

NWinther....
See above....thx.

and 4pickupguy....

Thank you all for giving it a listen and the kind comments.
Have a great weekend everyone.

......It is compressed.....and using studio monitors does not help.
Maybe it's the icloud with its very narrow frequency range? Digital can be sterile sounding. Other Icloud recordings on this forum sound the same to me. Digital can be to precise lacking analog warmth. It's hard to explain what one does or doesn't hear. Buying studio monitors KRK was the best small investment i ever made for recording and listening to music. They've been on constant for 10+ years and still going and working beautifully. best 300 bucks spent used with a cheap pyramid stereo preamp. Werks.

Reveille!

I bought the KRK 8's about 8 years ago and I like them and much prefer the front ported bass.
Monitor preference, like music in general, is so subjective.
I've heard some complain that they are too bassy....but, not to my aural receptors.

My first mixes are on my 3" Tascam S1010m's at very low volume.
When I think I'm close I'll check it out on my KRK's at moderate volume.
Then, I send it off to Ken for his thoughts and we make adjustments until we're pleased with it.

Back to it....

Sounds fantastic, guys. Great lyrics and the music was right on.

I really like the hook and chorus. The meter of the lyrics fits right into the rhythm in that first line. In fact that's now stuck in my head. Durn ya

I only got to listen so far on my Bluetooth headphones, but for what it's worth, the mix sounded good on them to me. Hopefully that's a useful data point as far as sounding good on a variety of listening systems.

2 of my last recent songs were complaints about the squirrels and raccons makes me feel kinda silly. lol.

I am with you on this. But here's my take and why I really appreciate songs like this AND don't feel like I should be writing them. For what it's worth.

I assume Chulaivet is not a handle chosen by mistake! There's a sense of authentic wisdom in these lyrics and yeah... Most of my songs feel kind of trivial next to stuff like this.

But honestly- my "serious" songs just aren't that good and I don't get a lot of fulfillment out of writing from that place.

That's just ME, and that's ME as a song WRITER. As a listener... I really appreciate songs like this. My dad is a Vietnam vet with a similar story. Songs like this remind me to take a minute in my day and give a moment of thought and thanks for how hard he worked to give me a more stable life.

So I try to pay that forward how I can in different ways in my life, and that pay-it-forward feeling was installed in me by my dad, but.. that feeling just isn't coming from the same place in me that music is coming from.

So I can either commit lyrical atrocities like:

"Hey, hey, baby, it's really challenging to integrate trauma informed practice into police and court procedures to provide the best possible outcomes for justice involved-veterans..."

Or I can just hear a tune like this and appreciate it, but when it comes to writing music, best I stick to songs about spending 3 hours in the grocery store and STILL forgetting milk and eggs.

And squirrels and raccoons, honestly, I feel that. Those little monsters can mess up my day sometimes so hearing THAT song isn't necessarily going be be any less valuable to me in any given moment when I'm already having a tough day at 7am and I look outside to find trash all over the yard!

Just my take.

Howdy gents....

MTPoteet....
Thanks for spinning it and the kind word.
We're glad you found it worthy of your time.

"I really like the hook and chorus. The meter of the lyrics fits right into the rhythm in that first line. In fact that's now stuck in my head. Durn ya". 😁 Sorry.

I enjoyed your in depth comments.
Great....glad it's an acceptable mix on you bluetooth setup.
TBH....I don't fret too much regarding the song being perfect on the countless system setups out there.
If it sounds good on my 3" Tascams, my 8" KRKs and Kens' system then that works for me.
To me....it's like kneading the dough way too much and we can easily get lost in an indecisive abyss trying to accomplish the unachievable.
But....as Ken mentioned to me a few days ago, in so many words...."a mix may never be done, just abandoned"

My "handle"?....I figured it was cryptic enough that only those who shared the same muddy boots would get it.
Of course, a few over the years inquired if I was veterinarian. :)

As far as my writing style I'm only 'fulfilled' with somewhat serious, deliberately well chosen topics.
As my music hosting sites would verify.
Personally....love songs with forlorn melodies are not in my wheel house.
I leave that subject to others.
Having said that mass appeal for my efforts would never be a reality.
I'm happy being a song writing bottom feeder that likes to write songs and interact with those of like mind.

Nothing easy about song writing...that's my take.

Thanks again to you both for your time and comments.

Carry on....

Hi

Thanks for posting a great song!!

Just to show that there's nothing new under the sun ( and I'm not wishing to hi-jack this thread) here's a song with exactly the same name that I wrote and recorded with a my band a couple of years back. Twin lead guitars - a Tele and a Les Paul.............
