Hi folks! I'm Tim, and I'm a university professor living in Seattle, WA. I've been playing bass on and off for the last 17 years. I play mostly as a hobby, for the sake of my own mental health.

I've been wanting to play guitar for a long, long time. About 10 years ago, I bought an MIJ strat with a floating trem because it seemed like a good deal, and a lot of fun. It turned out to be long drain on my time and patience. The posts for the trem ripped out the wood, the screw holes in the trem's baseplate stripped out, and so the guitar has been unplayable without extensive repairs for quite some time.

This year, I decided that I need to learn guitar, no more obstacles, no more nonsense. I've always liked the simplicity of Esquires, so I settled on the even simpler Noventa Tele. It should be here next week. So, now I finally have an excuse to be here on TDPRI!

Welcome aboard! We just need to you fill out the appropriate consent forms. As you are a bass player who wants to learn guitar, the Dr will be by shortly to perform the requisite lobotomy. Afterwards the nurse will be by to tell you to turn it down… this should get you rolling on your new journey.

Oh, and as a formality we will need to gawk at pictures of your guitars as we have no lives of our own…

I have two Esquires, one of which was my regular gigging guitar for years. The simplicity of an Esquire will set you free. Well, then there's that cover band stuff, and ultimately, not so much.

Welcome. You'd have been welcome even as a bass player!
Eg here
Include pics of your bass gear too!

I like the look of the Noventa Tele. I converted a MiJ Tele to Esquire spec a few years ago and regard it as an upgrade...

And I'm sure if you detail the problems with your Strat there'll be advice and opinions offered. Could you convert to hardtail maybe? Include pics. We like pics.

Welcome and IMHO that's a good place to start. I did it that way back in 1965. Started on bass and my first real pro electric was a '67 Tele. Wish I still had it, and my '66 Jazz Bass, my '63 PBass, and my Bassman amp along with a dozen more pieces of gear now worth a small fortune. :(

Hiya and welcome to TDPRI!

Couple of things though...
1) What's your (academic)subject?
2) Can we see a picture of your Noventa Tele?

I research biomedical ethics, especially related to brain science. It's a weird life. 🧠

I promise to post a picture of my (vintage blond) Noventa Tele when it gets here next week. (I can't wait!) But, to tide y'all over, here's a pic of my now busted Strat, a 1990 MIJ HSS Hot Rod Reissue with the most worn-in neck I've ever felt in my life. I need to get rid of it for closure eventually.

That's what I'm hoping. This Noventa Tele is gonna be the stripped down machete I use to cut riffs like sugar cane.
