Bass + effects yes or no

    40+years of going straight to amp but a while back my son acquired an Aphex Bass Xciter. He calls it the "make it sounder betterer" pedal. Subtly fattens the bass and "excites" the treble. Sounds like a vintage tube studio pre-amp. Makes our old Peavey Basic sound really good. One of those effects that you don't notice it's on until you switch it off.

    I have an overdrive, fuzz, and compressor on my pedal board but only have found a use for the overdrive, just to add some edge; I love that sound.

    Live no, just compression and a preamp that I can use to dial in a little grit if I want. In a studio maybe. Depends on the tune and what fits.
