Having just acquired my first bass guitar (and an SS amp), it only seems natural to build a tube amp, to accompany my other homebuilts. I've pretty much settled on some flavor of Ampeg B15, and have managed to score transformers and tubes:

This rabbit hole has led to two primary possibilities: the Trinity Trip Top and the CtG FCBN 51B. (and of course one of the original versions of the B15).

I'm leaning towards the CtG version (http://ctgelectronics.weebly.com/custom-amplifier---fcbn-51b.html), which offers fixed bias, cathode bias, and SS rectification.

On the other hand, the Trinity Trip Top offers better documentation, but doesn't have SS rectification. (https://www.trinityamps.com/product/trinity-trip-top/ ; https://www.trinityamps.com/docs/TripTopSchematic.pdf ; https://www.trinityamps.com/docs/TripTopSchematic.pdf ; https://www.trinityamps.com/docs/TripTopBuildersGuide.pdf

I'd to hear from anyone who has experience with these amps.

It'll be a slow build, as I have a lot of big projects going on now with quickly arriving deadlines. This may a project for the coming winter...

Dang, you've even got the correct iron. Subscribed. A stripped down single channel version has been on my list. My dad is a bassist and he's asked me about building him one. I was going to use Edcor iron and 5751s in place of the 6SL7s.

Interesting transformers, looks like "potted"! Is the OT HiFi rated? Bass comes down to 41Hz and guitar OT might saturate and bigger OT should be used.

OT core saturation produce distortion which can sound interesting but if OT does not "transform" energy to loudspeaker efficiently the heat accumulates and might lead to OT burn?
