And a glass of water. Water. At a bar. I’m the youngest guy here. May have something to do with it.

Maybe they have some kind of meal discount with a drinks purchase?

Some people can claim drinks and meals as work expenses too.

Depends on how young you are......maybe he thought you needed the water as a beer chaser?

Maybe he was just messing with you?
With the next beer purchase ask for 4 long straws.

The water is to dilute the beer so you can stay longer & spend more. Pretty hard to legally serve a drunk person in most states these days. Maybe the bartender knows there are bar flies on the way for you to spend money on...

How about not lashing out at the clerk/bartender/waitperson when simply just performing a job function. Not everyone is tuned into crazy.

I'm pretty sure he just made a post on a message board, not lashed out at the service person. Did I miss something?

I used to be able to expense ANYTHING I got on the road... including drinks... and if you fly a lot, you are always dehydrated, so at good bars, they know a lot of the guys fly, they give you 'water back' so you can catch up.

A glass of water with beer also means that you can keep your mouth fresh for the next one if you wanna enjoy the taste of it.

A friend told me once that water after a beer helps it with vitamines, etc .. i still don't believe it...

Well, you probably can’t return it without a receipt. Maybe an exchange, but if you want the full refund, you’ll need the receipt.

Thinking about how to return a beer to a bartender, asking for a full refund...

May the water intended to clean the mess inherent to that process?

Around my parts buying a few Beers at a bar is an expensive outing. The receipt thing just reinforces the “I paid that much for a few lousy beers”!

Maybe the receipt helps you keep track of how many drinks you've had? A bartender told me he had a customer who saved his straws, laid them all down side by side and if he wanted to know how many drinks he had downed, he just counted his straws.

I think it makes the Prosecutions court case for the drunk driving charge easier if you have a pocket full of drink receipts.
