Ahh it’s Tuesday. If I wanted to today or maybe tomorrow I could afford a classic car. After that they go way over my head. I had a 68 Camaro with a big block I sold a few years ago. What I learned is I am really a new car guy. Everything I wanted to do to it was to make it act like a modern car. So I might like a retro which is old car body and new underpinnings beneath it. I think I will stick with the new.

I would consider a 70’s, could be 80’s Cabellero. That is the GMC version of the El Camino. Why? Because my Dad had one.

I'd love a late 60's El Camino. But being on the far side of the world from where they come from makes them a bit rare and quite expensive. :)

This would be a good year for it as it's the first time Meecum has done an auction here.

I’ll be out in Scottsdale tomorrow if the ice lets up here. I’ll carry a bit more cash and may swing by.

Yep... the traffic and parking craziness has begun in North Scottsdale. And, we're in full swing getting geared up to host the Phoenix Open soon. We who live here look forward to these two annual events being over, so our lives can resume as normal again. The amount of people going to these events is so huge that they have acres and acres of remote parking areas scattered about North Scottsdale, with shuttle buses moving bodies back and forth. Crazy time traffic-wise.

Had a 72 El Camino years ago. Red with a black vinyl top. Wish I still had it.

I attended in B. Jackson January auction in Jan 2017. As a spectator. Bought nothing. It was a good day viewing the 1700 or so cars outside under all the tents. The trade show was good. We had fun. Overall a great week was spent in the Phoenix valley. If I were a rich man today and could have any car I wanted...Hmm. Hard call. Just one? Really? Today, I would choose a 1946 to 48 or so Dodge 1/2T pick up. 100% restored. Mostly stock. Maybe added seat belts and modern hydraulic brakes. 12V system with a modern stereo and sub under the seat. Wide whitewalls....

I've set the DVR to record all the action this year. That way I can FF thru all the crap. I'd love to go one year...have been thinking about flipping the '55 Buick and wouldn't be upset if she didn't bring all the money. I've had a lot of fun with her and she wasn't bought as an investment.

Here's just hoping ya'll don't have any more of those freak winter storms, with intense winds that blow everything down. That was not funny.

The El Camino was nicknamed the Cowboy Cadillac. Folks still like them. I have a Chevrolet Avalanche now. They quit making both vehicles, I think, because people liked them. I don't always understand marketing. The reason I have heard for quitting making the Avalanche was the extended cab pickup filled it's slot. Well, no it doesn't, but I just own one what do I know.

Instead of going to a high-roller's auction where you don't have a lot of time/resources to fully examine a car, why not try Bring a Trailer? Their results are the true market price, and the many people who comment on the 7-day auctions are bound to notice something about the car that you might miss.

Sure, you have to watch location and budget for transport if you win. But you skip the hotel/entertainment/airfare to the high roller auction.

I get it - there are so many old trucks I go ga-ga over.

If I could have one ? This one . 1947 Hudson Big Boy. As unrestored as possible . Def not repainted ...
