You can double springs if you need to. Check to see if you have any ball point pens around too. Hardware stores carry springs. Metric screw assortments are at amazon or your hardware store. I used RC car screws on my project. I forget the thread size, maybe M3 or M4. Humbucker ring adjustment screws might fit too.

This is an example of RC screws M3

I have M4 and they are too big, so it must be M3. The problem is if you use the short saddles and pull them back they might be behind the string holes in the tremolo block. Also these short saddles weren't designed for through-body string setup and the strings will wrap awkwardly around the saddle right next to the intonation screws.

I filed down the lip of the tremolo cavity effectively allowing the bridge to move a little further back. Right now the tremolo block is jammed against the back wall of the cavity, so it's not much of a tremolo, however I can easily fix this by enlarging the cavity from the back of the guitar.

I was able to intonate the guitar almost perfectly with the exception of the lower B string which is 0.062". I removed the spring from B string saddle to allow it go all the way back, and the 12th fret is just a tad sharp right now, so I'll leave it at that.

I need to refinish the body (possibly expand the cavity to allow the tremolo to float), add side dots on the neck, add a string tree for the B and E low strings, and glue the nut.

I have a set of Hosco nut files with the following sizes .010/.013/.017/.026/.036/.046″ and I will file the nut slots for 5 of the strings, however I don't have file large enough for the 0.062" slot. How can I file this larger slot without buying a specialized file?

I have the StewMac 0.050/0.060 file as part of my set and use it a lot. The 50 covers most of the low E strings for electrics and the 60 does the low E's for acoustics. You can rock the file to make the slot a bit wider. I also have a set of jewelers needle files that included two tapered round files that come down to a point - they have been perfect for the few bass guitars that I have worked on. I think the set was ten bucks or so - try Grizzly or Harbor Freight.
