    Blink (Irish band)
Blink forced to change to Blink 182

British band Earth changed their to name to Black Sabbath due to confusion with another British band named Earth.

    Charlatans US
    Charlatans UK

The Sisterhood until Andrew Eldritch claimed it.
Then changed to The Mission but had to add UK due to a Philly R&B band with the same name.

I'm not sure if I will get the facts completely straight: Craig Nicholls of The Vines chose the name in a tribute to his father's band, The Vynes. I have never heard The Vynes but The Vines are always great.

The Sisterhood was a side project for Eldritch. He was never in The Mission, Wayne Hussey and Craig Adams formed The Mission when they left the Sisters.

One again, they're only 'The Mission UK' in the States. See also 'The English Beat'

Okay that's enough already, Genesis and Fleetwood mac have also been named in that way. They are the same band with a line up change.

Nobody mentions the Rolling Stones as three different bands when they switched their lead guitarist. Or Sha-na-na when a couple of their lead singers left the band and were replaced with others. They simply don't apply to this thread.

    That's close to Massachusetts, isn't it? Ha-ha.

Actually, I saw the BoDeans in the early 90's. They're decent enough. Probably have a CD or two of theirs.

Some friends of mine in HS had a band called Blitzkrieg, but they had to change their name because there were too many bands called Blitzkrieg. So they changed it to Fallen Angel, but then they had to change it again because there were too many bands called Fallen Angel. So they changed it to Each It and Die, but then they couldn't get gigs and were graduating anyway, so broke up.

I have often said in the future that, to prevent duplication, band names will have to be like passwords: 16 characters long and include a symbol, a number, a capital letter, a lowercase letter, etc.

There were, at one time, three local bands here all using the name "Mid-Life Crisis'...I think maybe two of them have disbanded now...

And that's one thing people STILL get wrong too, here's how that really went down, as told by those poor unfortunate saps who went through it.

Yazoo had to be called called Yaz in North America because of a name conflict.
