Song titles and album titles are impossible to protect, apparently. Many have been recycled innumerable times. Band names are another matter, and there are many tweaked names to prove it. Just don't you dare copy my headstock shape!

Wasn't there a group of guys calling themselves The New Yardbirds for a while ;)

Also there used to be a great independent band in the nineties called Brainiac:

They unfortunately came to a tragic end. A Documentary about them came out last year, and it's a good watch if you enjoy that kind of thing.

Unfortunately, before the doc brought a little more attention to them, every time I google them I got some guys EDM (I guess that's what it is) music.

True. Led Zeppelin gave birth to Dread Zeppelin and Lez Zeppelin, but they started as Willie Dixon.

You forgot X, the Australian Punk band formed the same year as the aforementioned X the US Punk band.

Aussie band The Angels had to do a name to Angel City when they toured the US as there was already a local band there called The Angels...

You have Spirit, the American rock band formed in the late 60's by Randy California and his step father Ed Cassidy.

Then you have Spirit, the 90's cover band featuring yours truly (with the flat top).

    Spirit v3.jpg

Co-incidently during one of these incarnations of our band there was another band running around Sydney called Spirit. We arrogantly changed our name to Original Spirit. Who were we kidding.

Yep and the Aussie band Finch changed their name to Contraband to avoid confusion with a Dutch band called Finch.

    Eh...

Mick, John, and Christine (who was their session piano player) are still there.

A lot of people don’t know that her old band, Chicken Shack, played immediately before Fleetwood Mac made it’s debut and that she was John’s wife less than a year later.

The Jaggers had to change their name to The Jaggerz because someone had already claimed the name.

Blazer, I apologize for the distraction to your thread and thanks for being kind. I've learned (via this thread) that when you use the ignore function on TDPRI, it blocks any and all posts that the ignored party makes. LOL.

I saw your posts and figured something was up. So, I unblocked him long enough to reveal his posts.

I've edited the offending post to hopefully end any further diversions from the music. Back to ignoring.

    Thanks again for your understanding.

Yeah, I wondered about being more specific but it took the edge off my cheap joke :D

What a change (and successful change) they did have, and two great eras with very different sounds.

I need to relearn Man of the World now...

People always overlook the Bob Welch era of the band.
