My daughter had to go to a career fair. She did not enjoy it. She says she didn't like going from table to table hearing people extol the virtues of getting paid to do things she doesn't like to do. For example, working in a hotel folding towels.

According to her, the most attended table was the one where they'd cast a small metal dragon for you after you listened to their pitch.

Her favorite was the one where you could win a T shirt by screwing together 10 different nuts and bolts. She won, but declined the shirt.

The worst, in her opinion, was the table that talked about office work. She called them Corporate Spreadsheet People.

Great band name and concept. It would be like Kraftwerk, but with less soul.

I think it was helpful and good for her to find out early what kind of job she did NOT like.
I hope she will find a job that she really loves to do.

I hope she has a good idea of what she wants to do.

ya know, I could fold some towels. It sounds cathartic
I worked as the Water Sports manager at a hotel here on island. Folding towels is not, IMO, cathartic. Housekeeping would bring 50-60 towels in the morning, bundled up but not folded for maximum displayability.

Usually, after the 15th towel I was ready to scream, strangle the next tourist that walked up, and dump the rest of the towels in the return bin. This would mean more work for me, so I just folded towels and smiled at the guests.

I am great at folding towels but it was a great drain on my psyche

Damn, not sure how to respond, so many options for reacting!

Tomorrow I have to attend a 12 Step area service committee meeting where a bunch of ex con really bad people getting better are going to discuss SPREADSHEETS for the treasury and the September convention.
Also afterward will be a couple more hours meeting about the every two years world motions for the next projects like translating books into Swahili or Khmer and changing world board members term lengths.
Fun stuff.

But for many it is the first sense of having value as a human being.
Jobs may provide that?
Or jobs can make us feel like cattle too.
Even after 18 years of formal schooling rather than jails and ERs, folks can feel like cattle.
