We started off as a hipster kiddie band during the Dan Zanes era.

We used to play the Banana Splits theme.

I needed to get that off my chest.

You can skip to about 3:00 for the Banana Splits music part.

The Banana Splits was the '60s, not the '70s, and it DID NOT SUCK. A psychedelic acid-inspired show for kids. What could be better?

Especially the Danger Island parts, which were the coolest.

    Uh-oh, Chongo!

BS, Partidge Family and the Glen Cambel show were my foundational musical influences.

I hope the new movie version has the Sour Grapes, the girl biker gang that would go-go dance when the Banana Splits "performed." I can imagine them reinterpreted in a Russ Myer Faster Pussycat Kill Kill sort of way.

I don't think its a coincidence that they waited until Jan Michael Vincent passed away to make this movie. I understand that he was prone to violence when displeased. The producers may have been in fear for their lives while he was alive.

Wonderama and Bob McAlister!!! I haven't thought about the Finkelheimer song in MANY years! (Finkelheimer, finkelheimer, finkel dinkel heimer!)

It was a BIG deal when we got cable tv in the late 60's and got WNEW, WPIX and several of the NYC channels in addition to the 3 standard channels of ABC, NBC and CBS of upstate NY. Mets winning the Series in '69 and Yankees games (Phil Rizzuto commentating) as well as the Knicks, when Walt Frazier, Dave DeBusschiere and Willis Reed were on the championship team around 1969.

I know tv can be a tremendous waste of time, but I enjoyed watching cartoons on Saturday mornings...its too bad that disappeared about 30 years ago.

In reference to the Banana Splits, I always KNEW Paul Winchell was an evil genius...so it makes sense that its now a slasher movie.
