I am very close to deciding on a Baja Tele. Are any of you Baja players actively gigging with one? How good are pups? And last of all, what is the quality compared to a decent US built tele?

Opinions would be most welcome - Thanks!

Which Baja? The 50s or 60s model?

Haven't a clue, just found out there are two variations! As long as it sounds like a Tele, that's the main thing. I like the beefy neck as narrow necks are difficult for me these days what with my fingers no being as able as they were in years gone by!

Just done a bit of reading - probably the 50's version as I get the impression the pups are a little better sounding.

In my opinion the Baja Tele can hold its own against any guitar.

I've gigged with the 50s, it's great - I don't think you'll find many people on here with a bad word to say about this guitar.

I just got my second one and I am seriously considering a third. It's a good guitar to stock up on because they will be rare one day.

Fender doesn't make a better sounding tele IMO.

Got a 50's Baja. The Broadcaster/Twisted Tele PU combo is great.

Solid built and a nice chunky neck. I tried LOTS of Teles - US, standards, deluxes, this was top of the heap. Lot of girth to the bridge pickup is the standout feature. I may have got lucky but that Broadcaster is sweet for a stock PU,

I'd pick the Baja over anything except the PV series.. They are good to go right out of the box.

The 50s Baja is a great guitar. I don't like the S-1 switch, but that's easy to replace if you decide you want to do it.

    I haven't played a 60s and can't comment.

What they said. I just put a p90 in the neck and converted it to standard wiring with no S1. Mine's under 7lbs. The bridge pickup sounds great! The neck is lovely and contrary to popular belief the finish isn't so thick at all.

I'm in the same mind frame as I have two and am considering a third. You just can't go wrong with these bad boys!

I have a '50s Baja, and I love everything about it. I haven't owned a US Tele, but I hear a lot of people saying it's comparable! As for the pickups, they're a great combination, and I find myself getting a lot of useable tones with these! And mind you, I 'un-modded' my Baja, so it now has standard Tele 3-way switching. If you like the 4-way and the S1 swith , it's got even more tonal options. It's an amazing guitar!

I picked up a 50s Baja this summer and absolutely love it. One of the best ways you can go to get a Tele. I've gigged with it as well as played it at several blues jams. First time I took it to the blues jam the guy who leads the jam commented on how good it sounded....

I have one of each and I don't think there is a difference in quality.

All good things eventally get discontinued or replaced or changed.

It's the nature of Fender and the universe really.

    Good Ole Entropy.

Thanks every one, I notice there is not one negative comment about them, I shall look forward to getting one soon. I have a good store looking for a good used one as I write this.
