Hmmm. my Baja's bridge pickup sounds microphonic - if I tap the bridge with a pick I can hear it loudly through the amp. This can't be right?!

Boy, that brings back mermoies of my childhood with the trees and snow. We lived off of Fishook Rd (Forest Hills Subdivision if I recall correctly). We actually lived a few places, but that was the last.

Baja's are great, I love mine!!

I finally managed to put it down for a sec to take some photos.
It is horrible in a way, I mean there is nothing obvious to be replaced (and modding is fun). After thinking long :

    - main idea: Selector switch tip. I would like to have something looking like a used chewing gum. I do not know why but I really like the idea and will try to do it ;)
    - maybe bridge pickup (quarter pounder / Area Tor. Maybe even mini H with split).

Does anyone know if a G&L 6 brass saddle ashtray bridge will mount to a Baja without needing new holes drilled? I really like the design of G&L's bridge.

PM Boris, or wait for him to reply. I think he has tried practically every combo imaginable with his 7 Bajas

Yeterday i heard a guy talking about the Baja. He said that if you are looking for the classic telecaster sound, you schouldn't buy the Baja. He said the Baja is a good guitar, but it's a class of it own and that it has it's own kind of sound. According to him you schould buy a mim/mia standard/deluxe etc.
What are your opinions, is there some truth in his thinking?

I would agree. Do me, the Baja has always been a slightly hot-rodded 50's style tele. The bridge pickup is a bit hot and not as snappy to me. The neck pickup is a little less bassy and a little more Strat sounding. Plus you have the phase and series options.

For me, the bridge and neck pickups of the traditional tele are too far apart. If I set the tone controls of my amp for the bridge pickup, the neck pickup sounds too dark. If I set the tone controls to have my neck position where I like it, the bridge pickup sounds too bright.

So, in addition to being one of the best feeling teles I've even played, the Baja actually is more functional than a traditional tele, for me.

    Cheers!

    Hi Donald77

    I disagree with this guy.
if by "classic telecaster sound" you mean the modern Tele sound you hear on many pop/indie rock record, then yeah that's MIM/MIA standard.
But if you compare these new Standards with a vintage Tele from the 50's, you will find there is a huge difference.
The main thing about the baja is that the pickups are better and the switching options make it more versatile. If you buy a MIM or MIA standard you will quickly looking to upgrade the pickups.

I gotta go back now and photograph the neck pockets in all my Desert Sand Bajas. I could be mistaken, but I don't recall all these smaller holes like this.

    Hi guys,
    I'm new to the forum.
I'm having some troubles trying to get a good tone out of my Baja.
I think the pickup height might be an issue.
Can you give me some pointers, please, how high you set your pickups, and some general advice regarding pickup heigh and balance in teles?
    Thank you in advance.

Pedro, I left mine right where it was from the factory. My tone is great. With the strings open, the bass side pickup height is about 5/32" below the string and the treble side is about 4/32".

Hi guys first post here. I purchased an 06 Baja a few weeks back, and have read this entire thread.

It had a few issues but I had them taken care of and now this guitar is even more so a tone machine. Im still getting used to the fatter neck, and Ive gone up to 11s on this thing...the result is sore hands today, but I couldnt be happier.

Funny story-I took my Baja in to address the fret spout and get it setup and the response from the shop guys was nuts-they were all drooling and the owner told me on the way out that he was a tele man-and would be picking up a Baja soon himself.

    Anyway here it is-my 06...

Congrats on your '06 Baja. So how was the fret sprout addressed?

The guy is an old fender employee-many techs around here are, he said he had a special tool-Im guessing some kind of fret file. The frets are super smooth and theres no fret fret spout now. The neck now feels on par with my American strat.

He also cleaned up the nut, which was ok to start and set up the baja-intonation is pretty dang good. The pickguard is warped, but he said the holes were properly drilled-so I have a callaham bakelite guard on the way, as well as a slotted screw kit.

He was impressed with the quality of the Baja, down to the wood joining, weight, and neck.:D

Cant wait to start recording with this tele.

    Tele Newbie

    Hey guys

I'm a full-on tele newbie from Scotland here. Been playing my Epi LP custom for a bit but really wanted to try a tele, so plumped for a Baja, and here she is! MX10264416, blonde and beautiful!

Intonation was absolutely horrible when she arrived but tweaked that out for now until the compensated saddles arrive, fitted straplocks and that's about it. I'm delighted with her, especially since she's less likely to break my shoulder after an evening's playing than my LP was!
