I think that the point of the video was that there is nothing magical about an OD pedal. They all boost and clip the signal. The difference is in the tone stack. You can pretty much replicate any other OD pedal with any OD and and EQ pedal.
The more pedals I try and listen to, the more I realise this to be true. Which makes me kinda want to by a Kernom Ridge. That one is also expensive ofcourse, but the tweakability and control you get is huge. It just looks so damn... modern, and digital (I know it's not). Pretty, but modern. Ugh.
I / We guitar players are a weird bunch, that's for sure.

(Also, without context, this is a pretty weird thread title. ...Or a great title for a song 😆)

I don't think thats completely true. There is some "nuance" to the sound of the pedal based on how much of which frequencies are being clipped and not just the EQ curve of the pedal.

It is much more apparent with clean amps being used as a pedal platform, but at some point, with an overdriven amp, the pedal ends up disappearing as the amp overdrives and compresses. At that point the overdrive just becomes an EQ pedal pushing the amp.

I can’t believe it’s now the most expensive pedal I own :D

Lol, I hadn't even thought of that...yet! I think I'll continue to keep mine. Its a good pedal...a good pedal, not really a great one, but good enough that I won't be selling it.

Unless they start to go for $1,000! Lol!

I had one in 2006 after all the hype back then. I didn't bond with it and sold it for the $40 I paid for it. I still wouldn't give you $20 for one now.

Back then for roughly the same money the SD1 was the better option in my opinion.

I'm glad my Helix sounds about 10 times better....and has a Rat to boot too!
But in all honesty, it's the player's ears and how they react to whatever they are playing thru.
$600.... or a used Helix LT...hhhmmm. lemme think about that.. lol!

Pretty sure the prices of Monkies will drop rather quickly. It has happened many times before with something JHS demoed.

Which is worse in your mind, people asking $650, or or people actually paying $250?

Since we're discussing discontinued overdrive pedals that have risen in price, how do you all view the Fulltone OCD vs the Bad Monkey?

Greetings from Sunny New Jersey
It's an OK pedal that sits on the floor with the rest of my motley crew of pedals. It does what I want, almost, but I do understand the "blanket over the sound" comment that someone made in this thread. It stays in service because stacked with a DOD 250 type pedal I get the upper end chime/bite that the pedal was lacking. Love the combo with the neck pickup. Love the goofy graphics and the fact that it was one of the first pedals that I actually kinda liked.
