Hi there! First of all, sorry if I'm totally mistaken. I don't know anything about electricity or amps components.

    My situation is:

I live in a new flat that I like but now there's always hiss coming from my amps. I didn't have that issue in my last flat. Is there something that I can do to avoid the hiss? It can be really boring sometimes.

    Thanks

Since the problem wasn't there in the previous flat, ther are 3 possibilities.
    1) Your amp has incurred some damage in transit, or
    2) the power supply in the new flat is faulty, or
    3) something else in the flat is causing the hiss.

I would check the power with a multimeter, to ensure the power socket is correctly wired.
Can you move the amp around the room, or into another room to stop the hiss?? If so, it may be flouro lighting in the flat below you.

    Thanks for your answer!

The amps aren't damaged, I gig with them and they are quiet in proper clubs. There's hiss when I play stages where electricity sucks.

Hiss occurs in the whole flat. The power sockets may suck 'cause the house in which the flat is has been renovated by the owner. Is there some kind of device I can plug between the amps and the sockets in order to reduce the hiss?

    A power conditioner might help.

Don't mind me asking, but what kind of amps are we talking about here? Tube or solid state? I know some solid state amps get a little finicky when voltage dips below what they're rated for. I had a Line 6 amp that used to do that.

Thanks for your answer. One tube amp (blues jr), one solid state amp (blues cube). Same hiss :(

Dunno how it works in Europe, but in the States, a lot of older houses were built with ungrounded wiring featuring two-prong receptacles. The house I'm in was built in 1958 and the whole house was ungrounded. Hissy amps from two-prong receptacles in all rooms! ... Even if you have three-prong receptacles with a ground-lug opening, the house wiring still might not be grounded, depending on it's wired.

Get a cheapie circuit tester and insert one prong into the receptacle's hot slot (the shorter one), and touch the other to one of the screws on the cover plate. The tester should light up. If not, the box isn't grounded. There are ways to fix that, but it's good to eliminate this as a factor before you go buying power conditioners and such.

Get a DI with a ground switch and see if that does it.

For clarification, are we talking about "hiss" or "hum"?
