Stop drinking coffee

I don't know if you are a coffee drinker or not but this is a major source of bad breath. Otherwise brush after every meal.

If that's not it, see a doctor as advised above.

Make sure every time you brush your teeth you brush your tounge and the roof of your mouth as well. That helps.

Relentless bad breath is usually a result of a problem with your teeth or gums. I'd suggest you go see your dentist.

Also rinse a lot and use mouthwash. Good luck.

Look into the condition called "cryptic tonsils", which is also a common cause of bad breath.

Unfortunately, there's not much you can do for it outside of extreme and usually unnecessary measures.

Yeah, there are a number of conditions unrelated to your regular dental hygiene that can cause bad breath. In my case, sinus problems were a contributing factor. Diet can have a big impact, too.

But if you don't have any of those happening, go to the dentist and have your teeth cleaned, and then brush at least twice a day, floss (or, if you're like me and really dislike flossing, use a water pik), and use a mouthwash every morning.

The flossing/water pik thing can make a huge difference. You'd be AMAZED at all the crap stuck between your teeth that you don't notice with a visual inspection!!!

Cheers, Tim

I also recommend Altoids. I also keep a tooth brush and toothpaste at work, and brush after lunch and/or before important meetings, just in case.

I recently read an article about it. The most important reason why someone has bad breath were "evil" bacteria who lodge themselves in your tongue, between your taste buds.

So, like Tim said, mouth hygiene is very important especially the flossing. Those bacteria are in the food you eat so make sure there are no (or at least not too many) leftovers that got stuck between your teeth.

Another vote for tongue scrubbing. You're tongue harbours a lot more bad-breath making bacteria than your your teeth.

All of this is good advice, but especially seeing a dentist. I had bad breathe for along time, couldn't figure out why, tried everything. Looked in my mouth, couldn't really see anything out of place in the mirror. Didn't know what to think. Then one day I was chewing a burger, and WHAMMO, the pain was so intense I almost blacked out. It didn't stop either. Went to the dentist, who informed me that I had a tooth that was rotted and busted all the way to the gum line. It was one of my top wisdom teeth. I had no idea it was even bad, couldn't really see it, and it never caused me a lick of pain until it finally wore down far enough for the nerve to be exposed. He pulled it out, and the bad breathe went away. It was just plain old severe tooth rot.

Both of my top wisdoms are gone now, about a year after the first one came out, I chomped down on a chunk of bone in some meat, and broke off the other one. Had to have it yanked. I sure as hell wasn't going to wait for it to start stinking and hurting.

The upside to the having teeth yanked, is that you get great drugs. ;)

To add to all the good posts already, most of the time it is a local mouth/tooth thing. Something simple you could try is rinsing your mouth with a strong salt solution, or even just salt. If there are bacteria involved locally that may zap them.

Sometimes, though, it can be a sign of a more generalised problem with the body excreting wastes or some sort thru the lungs and lymph in the throat/mouth area. Skin and/or joint problems elsewhere would possibly be happenning as well. If so, consider seeing one of the traditional Chinese doctors. Your whole system (including the digestion, liver and kidneys in particular) might need help to function more efficiently.

Go to a doctor and see if you have ulcers or another stomach problem. That has a lot to do with breath. And it could also be your adnoids. (I hope I spelled that right.)

I never thought too much about bad breath, but about 6 months ago I took a job as an attorney in a public defender office, and spend my work time either at the jail or the courthouse. It seems like EVERYONE in this environment has bad breath, from the jail inmates to the judges. I know mine's been stinky lately. I wonder what gives?

The jail folks I understand because they have to buy toothbrushes and toothpaste with their own money, which can be scarce...but why me? I'm thinking a lot of it is dehydration.

Your diet can be a cause, so can your prescription medications. If you take a daily medication, you could ask your doctor.
