Why is it everything I hear on Soundcloud, sounds like AM radio? or generic? like an old B movie and lifeless no tone. I have my bass preamp cranked, nothing there.

? Ah lower your expetations on sound(everything is compressed and flat in the wonderworld of digital freeware), and use something else than studio monitors to listen to music, they pick stuff apart as it is their job.

Correction it's the ear that discerns. That's the point. A musician and his or her tone. Digital is a counterfeit to an analog world. I could rant 20 pages on gear. I digress. Music is more than 800hz to 1K But then there are some that can't hear the difference. BS excuses. ignorance and hubris lol!

Delusion of Grandeur? 😎

I grew up with this beautiful Man and his family living underneath, while my Uncle and Aunt had the upstairs of a beautiful Spanish style duplex. There’s a bunch of his stuff for free use on YouTube-under the title JamersonShook.

He’s got a bunch of videos/basses and they all sound great.

These were studio guys-heavy weights with low egos. he doesn’t feature his face but sure looks like Ernie McDaniels to me-My uncle was not a slouch either, He played with the Doors, Elvis both Costello and Presley, The Association, just They got simple tones that are timeless usually out of a P or similar bass and a lot of old Ampeg amp in the cabinet B15? ‘s, or whatever.

I hear my uncle just moved to Texas, back in the states after being out in Scotland and Germany for a good while, besides his service which I think was also overseas in the Navy, Way back when he was young, and sadly Ernie passed on but he’s left us tons of videos. And check out his discography he’s on Great albums with stellar people, all the way down the line to playing on the teddy Ruxpin motorized bear tapes.
These guys really dug playing but you never heard them talk about it. They would still regularly play at a little dive in LA or Hollywood…I think I remember hearing my uncle lost his old 62P bass in the Watts riots?

Anyway I just thought of it because Ernie is playing through a simple preamp and sounds great, just through my crappy iPhone.
