So my TD started snapping and cracking wierd screeches... First thought was wiring as I had installed A variable NFB a couple years ago. So I pulled it out and returned the amp to original. And still had the problem... Ended up being one of my 6V6 power tubes. Had a spare so it's all good... Got a new matched pair coming so will have a spare JJ when they get here. Im actually glad to have it back to original.... Sounds fantastic!

5E3 is such a simple circuit it is a perfect platform for fooling around with mods. I've tried a bunch on mine and all but 2 have been removed.

I've got screen resistors on the 6V6s, and a pre phase inverter master volume. These 2 mods have made the amp a versatile, giggable and sweet amplifier. Everything else I tried was either too subtle to be worth it, or made the amp sound different but not necessarily better.

What is TD? Your Touchdown is now a 5E3?

Tweed Deluxe?.....yeah I agree that sometimes people use acronyms too much. Use the full term or name the first time in a post, THEN use abbreviations after that.

For what it's worth, not EVERYBODY here knows what a 5e3 is.....particularly "newbies". I didn't mean to sound harsh, but even after playing for 55 years, occasionally someone abbreviates something that confuses me. (doesn't take much, I admit) So, if we all just re-read our posts before hitting "post", we might be a little more concise for everyone's benefit. ;)

5E3 will turn up search results related to a Fender circuit.

    Googling TD, not so much.

Then they should google 5e3. Basically I’m appalled at the negative responses to this benign post. I don’t care what y’all think.

I always refer to mine as a 5e3 in all my posts. I built it, so I don't really consider it a Tweed Deluxe (it's not a real Fender). Great amp, whatever you call it!:)

I get what you're sayin', man. There really should be some kind of aptitude/intelligence test to be allowed on TDPRI. That might help weed out the stupid and undesirables! ;)
