Back on a Bender

Many years ago, I had a G&L Asat with a Hipshot B-bender attached. Fun, but I couldn’t get used to the motion needed to operate the bender. Years later I was able to pick up a nice Tele with a PW long-throw bender installed. I kept that for many years, but ended up selling it. Loved the bender being actuated by the strap, and found several nice licks. But it was really heavy, and had a huge neck which didn’t work well for me. Haven’t had a bender guitar for 20 years, but that all changed today. I now have a Brent Mason signature Tele, and can’t put it down. It’s not heavy, has a great neck and wonderful pickups, and that awesome Glaser bender. So smooth! It seems like a real keeper. Now I need to know where to learn more cool B-bender licks. Where are the good resources? Really happy to be on another “bender”.

I started with a Hipshot on a lefty ASAT after seeing Will Ray at the Palomino. Moved to a Glaser b on that same ASAT in 1992, and then a Glaser b/g on an ASAT Classic in 1993. I’ve had several Parsons and an Evans but have kept only a Parsons on another ASAT Classic.

The repertoire and a pretty comprehensive list of recordings is found on another thread in this Forum. I’d start with Leadon off the first two Eagles albums, Warford with Linda Ronstadt and some of his sessions like Ian Matthews, and then White and Olander in the more complex syncopated realm.
