So, I had to sell my American tele about 31-ish years ago, for rent money when I was a starving student. I have always regretted it, and just a year later, when I finally graduated, I bought myself a Strat Plus to make up for it. I never did get around to replacing my Telecaster, but I finally did today. I've been reading about the Ultra, and pulled the trigger last week, after saving up all summer. It arrived today.

By God, what a great instrument! The fit and finish were top notch, and I simply cannot say how much I love the neck profile on this thing. The satin finish is silky as heck, and the rolled edges, combined with that gentle compound radius and thinner 'Modern D" profile - well, I just keep picking it up to play something, because it's so comfortable. I've never played any other guitar with a neck I enjoyed this much. Phenomenal.

The color is super sexy. I've watched every single video on YouTube I could find, and loved the Texas Tea colorway. The greens and golds reflected in the sunlight, just wow. I've never owned another guitar with binding, and I must say, it's really sharp looking, too.

I think it sounds great, and I love the noiseless pickups. Of course, I'm used to it, as I've always loved the gold Lace sensors in my Strat Plus, so it isn't really a change for me at all. The S-1 switch makes for a nice beefy tone in the middle position, so I'm enjoying that.

It's just really nice to be back in the Telecaster club again. And I honestly don't think I've ever picked up a guitar I enjoy playing as much as this Ultra. It sure wasn't cheap, but for me, so worth it. It's a fantastic instrument.

The best thing is that this Ultra plays better than any guitar I've ever owned. I have a Strat Plus that I've had since I bought it new decades ago, and it's great, but the new Modern "D" shaped neck with the compound radius is just, "wow." It's the most comfortable neck I've ever laid hands on, and I can't stop picking it up just to play. The satin finish is silky smooth, the action was great right out of the case. I'm already used to noiseless pickups, as I love the gold lace sensors in my old Strat Plus, so that was no change for me, really. But, it's all about that glorious neck profile. It really is something. If you get a chance to try one out in a store, please do. Plays so easily and smoothly, it's just outta this world.

I think the *only* possible change I may make is the brushed aluminum pickguard. That's just an aesthetic choice. I like the new brushed aluminum, as it looks quite sharp, if a bit too "modern" for a Telecaster. Someday, I may swap it out for a white pearloid pickguard, We'll see. Maybe the aluminum will grow on me...

I also did the hiatus thing. Wife, family, bought two houses (not together), guitar was set on the back burner. I played once every year or two for decades. So yeah, I get it. Lots of us here have a similar story.

Yup, it's just life. But the kids are grown, and now I get to play this very nice instrument. Getting older isn't so bad... ;)

In "The Legend of Bagger Vance" two of the central characters (Adele & Bagger) say one of the most profound things I've ever heard in My Life regarding time - goes like this...
"It was just a moment ago."
    And how true it is.
If You want to do a deep dive read Stephen Hawking's "A Brief History of Time."
Hawking is so deep (and funny too) that I'd only read 1-5 pages a day tops or everything would've been
    over my head.

This Telecaster Tale plays exactly into the scenario of a life.
    Well done Sir!!!
