I have been without a tele for a while, but not anymore!

i had bought this classic vibe tele when they first came out. I had it for a bit, then I ended up giving it to a friend’s daughter who was a budding musician who needed an electric guitar for her high school jazz band.

four years later, she is now becoming quite a talented singer/songwriter, but she pretty much is exclusively playing acoustic guitar, so the tele found its way back to me.

gosh, i forgot just how good these classic vibes are! Plus is there anything more cute than a double-bound tele?

I esquire'd one à few years ago and stupidly sold it.
    These guitars are awesome, congratulations!

Congrats! Nice of you to lend it to her, and good on her for taking care of it and returning it home.

    (just raggin on ya mimmo)
I Esquired one (CV 50) myself but I still have it!;)

I had another Tele rigged as an Esquire but decided to turn it back to normal. I plugged the rigging into the CV and wow the bridge pup just came alive. I had a hand wound custom pup in the other one that made for a very nice sounding Esq but the CV really rocks out. Great guitars truly.

It's great to see a younger player that actually takes care of their instruments!

Really nice. Double bound Teles are great. If they had chunkier necks I'd buy one. Or two ☺

Welcome back to the club, @theruley and congrats. Great story!

I really like the 3-tone sunburst with the double binding. I'd like to see it with a maple fretboard, but I like the rosewood, too.

Are you the one that reversed the control plate?

Yes. She kept on smacking the selector switch while playing, so i flipped it for her.

another interesting thing about it is I “upgraded” the pickups for her too when i dismantled a partscaster. They were tonerider pickups, which i am convinced are the OE pickups that come in these guitars because they looked identical (albeit with different stickers underneath) they had similar outputs, and i couldn’t really hear any noticeable change in sound.

Ironic you would do that. People in the "know" here say they're Toneriders in the CVs. More surprised you would actually change them in the first place:eek:. They're one of the reasons I bought my CV50. I could believe you bought it for the finish which is first rate SB (w/binding!) I have no other experience with Toneriders but I found these to be just great pups.

Also, just for reference sake, when I converted the other Tele back to normal I got some recommendations to install a Twisted Tele neck pup and that it would compliment the hand wound pup. That turned out to be not only true but I think I could have saved some money and just put the neck pup from the CV in instead. To my ears they sound the same but I'm not curious enough to check the output and whatnot. I just know they sound great.
    Enjoy your reunion.:)

Unfortunately as much as i like the sound of these pickups, my church building requires noiseless/humbucking pickups, so i am about to start that rabbit trail of finding the best solution...wish me luck!
