Hello ya'll. I am back here and more importantly playing again. I sold all my amps and Telecasters as I didnt have much time to play and for financial reasons...BUT I did keep a Musikcraft Nocaster body and neck and a bunch of hardware and well, I now have a killer Esquire.

I am in need of an amp and the Fender Excelsior has my interest. After reading some posts it looks like this amp is a popular one to do many upgrades. Can someone chime in and comment on what type of upgrades people do and whats the payback on doing these.

    I really appreciate your opinion

    Cheers

    Don

There was a huge thread here concerning those a few years ago.
I have and have never done any of those mods except for connecting the vocal and according inputs together (using a little foot switch cable) and using the guitar input to plug in to.

I've used one sparingly. It's my wife's and she won't give it up for anything. No upgrades yet, plain vanilla, but she loves it. And welcome back!

I have 2 and like them both for different uses. The one I’ve tweaked for guitar has gotten a vintage Jensen P15 speaker and some vintage US made tubes (a US made 12AY7, a 12AX7 and a pair of very tightly matched RCA 6VGTs) and it is really nice. It takes the only OD I ran into it well, and I’ve heard that running time/pitch mods through the 2 “other” inputs is effective as an effects loop.

Have you considered buying a kit and building it the way you want it?

I like my Excelsior, although I don't use it much these days. It's not a refined amp, but I always thought it had a big raw sound that made it a great amp for rockabilly stuff and old rock n roll. Turn it up!
Edited because I forgot to say that mine is stock - no mods.
