Oh yeah while I'm thinking about it, for ONCE I have the luxury of a choice for the pickup. I have a rail humbucker, 11.1,a lipstick bridge 7.5 and a neck lipstick 6.4. I'm leaning towards a lipstick because of all the string mass but which? Decisions decisions lol

Dave and Marty, you are both right about building a neck being made out to be a precision component built to aerospace tolerances. It certainly caused me some anxiety prior to attempting my first neck build and I work to aerospace tolerances in the airline industry for a living. I’m glad I didn’t chicken out and buy a neck for my build. It’s far from perfect but satisfying.

I don’t know what any of those numbers mean. I know a rail pickup has a bar magnet instead if individual pole pieces for each string but then you lose me. Also, I wear lipstick on my lips, not the neck, like this....

I’m not judging, you might be starting a new trend.:lol:

PS. I know what a lipstick pickup is, I just woke up on the silly side of the bed this morning. o_O:)

First, Jayne if those are your lips? Congrats, those kind have had men sailing the seas :D
Now that my silly side is done, I went to bed uncharacteristically early so woke up the same, and decided to sand , I do have veneer on the way after all :)

And although it will be covered in glue soon I reestablished my centerline. As can be seen i made the body slightly bigger than the pattern. Maybe the pattern was wrong or not it just looks "right" to me this way

    received_235060808141079.jpeg

I actually took a few measurements I'd neglected, yes that line is the scale length of the bridge. And overall it will be approximately 34 3/8" long. The neck surprisingly isn't THAT much longer than the body :)

A lot has changed over the time of this build, I started doing a Jag type bridge and now I'm doing an acoustic wood/bone bridge , same with the body, had my heart set on teal but the banjo broke out dad's old stain soooooo I tried that

    received_200191421801115.jpeg

Now I have to say, as Dave Cameron said I had fret 7 off and was gonna correct but forgot . But I went ahead and put it in that way but didn't notice until yesterday . Well I pulled it and corrected it TODAY but couldn't somebody call me out on it? I'm not fragile I take a hell of a lick and keep on ticking . Laying on my tablesaw ATM getting the decal buried in lacquer. A beautiful day here, who knew?:lol:

Well, received the pickups for this and the Guitfiddle, both lipstick Dano sized but wound hotter. Guess I better make a routing template now . I'm sure the banjo wishes I'd done it sooner

Glued up but not profiled yet. Overall thickness is 1 7/16", a little thin for that binding me thinks. But rounding over to a faux binding? That'll work :)

    received_795398674378594.jpeg

Also think lipstick pickup for this and maybe Tele neck pickup for the Guitfiddle. A little slimmer and trimmer :D
