I ordered a $15 black pickguard, found a old set of black strap locks, and got rid of the white pearl pickguard that came stock. It's like falling in love again...

new: black pickguard + black strap locks
old: see picture with white pearl pickguard

I'd say the black looks good.

Very nice. Huge upgrade over the pearloid one. I did the same thing to a 72 Thinline reissue I used to have.

Besides it looking better (IMO), the new look also cured my recent GAS. Even though it is not a new guitar, it has given me NGD excitement! Best part, it only costed $15 not $$$$.

+ now I have strap locks

    Much better!
The black really sets off the finish of the guitar.
    Thinlines look so cool!
This grumpy ol' coot doesn't "get" Straplocks.
I "get" that you don't want to drop your guitar, but Fender strap buttons have
never failed me in my 40+ years of Tele wranglin'.
There, I feel better, as you were, sir!:lol:

Thanks! Strap locks aren't for everyone, but I need them. I always have the issue of the strap turning the wrong way and pulling off the button. At shows things can get crazy, people bump into you, your bassist runs into you, etc, and I need to make sure I can grab the microphone and not worry about my guitar falling. it's just better insurance and piece of mind.

That guitar looks great with either but all things being equal I'd go with the black pickguard myself.

A few years ago, my white '90s Thinline, given as a gift to me by my now departed brother-in-law was stolen. Gorgeous fat neck, brass saddles on a vintage style (but 3 hole mounted) bridge.
Came up with a quickie replacement but obviously was less attached under the circumstances.
Point is, your photos have inspired me, and I'm on the hunt!
    Cheers to you!
    (and the dear departed too!)

Typically not a fan of tort, but this is a very good question. I suspect it would look extremely good actually.
