My first post. It's Australia Day today and although things are still grim in places I'm lucky to live in this beautiful country.

Same stuff. Just promoting Ash Barty the current ladies no 1 tennis player. Yes we have Woolworths in Australia. They are the biggest supermarket chain. Woolworths in the UK used to be a more general merchandise - CDs toys chocolate etc. Good for family Christmas shopping, but have folded. (I used to live in London.)

Yeast extract from brewer's byproduct. Very good for you, but lotsa salt.

Here's the original Happy Little Vegemites ad - Vegemite were one of World No 1 Ashley Barty's first sponsors when she came back to tennis after trying women's cricket.

So good on them - she's through to the fourth round of the Oz Open and they're cashing in on the razzmatazz.

I wasn't born in Australia, but a swipe of the black stuff on toast or fresh white bread is wonderful.

I will be doing my bit as an Aussie at a B-B_ Q at my brother's house with his family and grandchildren.
I don't eat meat ( red) so I'll have to settle on prawns, fish and salads.

We haven't had much to celebrate this Oz day after all the fires...

ironic her name is Ash(ley)... it's been that sort of summer...

been a while since we had a #1 woman tennis player... great that the kids have someone to cheer for...:)

I’m not sure if they are even around in the USA anymore but we had a department store called Woolworth’s more like a sears or Montgomery ward I guess closer to what the UK’s Woolworths is

I guess it’s just a coincidence that their are multiple unrelated woolworths stores , I’ve never actually ever seen anyone with that name, assuming it was named after the founder

I’ve heard it has an almost strong raw coffee ground type of flavor, how would you describe it?

I don’t have anything against Ash Barty but I’m not sure how much of a “legend” you can be at 23 years of age

We have enough sporting legends in swimming, running, surfing, and other sports that there's no need to brag .Let's just say, for a small population ( 24 million), we've made our mark. nuff said about that.

We have also had a Doctor who made penicillin, another who has made a a difference to cataracts and a current team of guys, one I know personally, who spend their annual leave performing plastic surgery. Not all these facts are known overseas ( as I have been several times) but we Aussies have tried to make this a better world. Hence , my pride, in my nation.
Do your best and help others- that's the Aussie way.

Pretty sure the Australian Woolworths chain owned by a group of South African investors and has no association with the UK Woolies.......

I'd say she's on her way to that status, assuming she picks up some more slams/majors. She played at the top level of tennis, then switched to cricket playing for her state, then returned to tennis and has quietly hit number one. One of the most humble sportspersons I've seen. Zero ego.
